The Network for Education Quality Monitoring in the Asia-Pacific (NEQMAP) is a regional network bringing together experts, government agencies, research institutions and CSOs to exchange knowledge, experience and expertise on the monitoring of educational quality in countries and jurisdictions of the Asia-Pacific region. The network focuses on student learning assessment as a key tool for monitoring education quality and learning, while acknowledging the importance of maintaining strong linkages with other learning enablers in classrooms, including curriculum and pedagogy. NEQMAP organizes on December 15-16, 2022, its annual meeting to take stock of the year’s activities and plan activities for 2023.
NEQMAP’s 2022 Annual Meeting comes at the end of a year 2022 during which countries in Asia-Pacific have reaffirmed their commitments to improving learning for all. In June 2022, the Second Asia-Pacific Education Ministers’ Conference (APREMC-II) was held in Bangkok Thailand and led to the adoption of the “Bangkok Statement 2022: Towards an effective learning recovery for all and transforming education in Asia-Pacific”. The Bangkok Statement 2022 identified two main priority areas of action for Asia-Pacific: ensuring a timely recovery post-COVID-19 and transforming education to be more relevant, inclusive and resilient. Internationally, the Transforming Education Summit convened in New York by the United Nations Secretary General created a new momentum among countries for education reform and achieving the SDG 4 goals. NEQMAP will aim to support countries in Asia-Pacific to meet their commitment through knowledge-sharing and capacity-building in the areas of assessment and monitoring of learning.
The year ahead is also a historical milestone for the NEQMAP network, which will celebrate its ten-year anniversary. The 2022 Annual Meeting will thus aim to plan for this celebratory year by reflecting on the accomplishments of the first decade and exploring how to advance further the work of NEQMAP and its role in promoting better monitoring of learning in Asia-Pacific.
