Introducing NEQMAP Strategy in Strengthening Quality of Education in Asia-Pacific

Since inception in 2013, the Network on Education Quality Monitoring in the Asia-Pacific (NEQMAP) has served as a regional platform for knowledge sharing, capacity development and research activities in the areas of learning assessment, curriculum and pedagogy to strengthen the quality learning outcomes in education systems through networking and collaborative efforts in the region and beyond. Today, the Network has 57 members from over 31 countries/jurisdictions representing Ministries of Education, national assessment bodies, research institutes, universities, NGOs and the private sector.

In 2019, NEQMAP undertook a programme evaluation, carried out by an independent research consultant, Dr. Jyothi Mirle Achutarao. With generous support of the Global Partnership Education (GPE) and significant contributions from our members, the evaluation has provided us with a critical review around effectiveness, relevance, and sustainability of the network from the period of March 2013 to December 2019. The evaluation also provided the foundation for NEQMAP to explore gaps and potential activities in supporting the member institutes and the member states in the region.

Following the outputs of the 2019 annual meeting in November 2019, and the main findings from the 2019 programme evaluation, the NEQMAP Secretariat, together with the NEQMAP Steering Group, has revisited and analysed NEQMAP’s overall goal, as well as its programmatic focus, to put forward the strategic planned activities in monitoring the quality of education in the Asia-Pacific region.

The NEQMAP Secretariat is pleased to share both documents, the NEQMAP Programme Evaluation and the NEQMAP 2020-2024 Strategy Document. In particular, the NEQMAP Strategy Document will serve as the main tool and guiding reference for the network’s engagement in the coming years to better support and strengthen collaborative efforts with our member institutions, as well as partners, in ensuring inclusive and equitable quality education in the Asia-Pacific region.

As the current COVID-19 pandemic limits the Network from sharing this document in person, the Secretariat would like to organize a webinar amongst Network members to share this strategy and engage with our members. The NEQMAP Secretariat will present this 5-year strategy document and promote discussion on how to implement the Network’s vision. This will also be an opportunity for NEQMAP member institutes to share their brief updates, and to reflect on how they have been impacted by the current COVID-19 pandemic and disruption.
