GPE Webinar Series on 21st Century Skills: How do national education systems work to foster them and what is the role for GPE? – Thursday 28 May 2020, 06:00-07:30hrs. EST

The Global Partnership for Education (GPE) Secretariat organised a session of the GPE Webinar Series on “21st Century Skills: How do national education systems work to foster them and what is the role for GPE?” on Thursday May 28, 2020, at 06:00-07:30hrs. Eastern Standard Time.

The world of the 21st century is radically complex. We live in an era that is globalized, with unprecedented levels of mobility and migration, as well as civil and political unrest and environmental degradation. This is reflected in today’s economy, which is similarly globalized and constantly undergoing rapid shifts. In addition of all of this, the global COVID-19 pandemic has upended the way we work, learn and interact in all senses.

Recognizing these imperatives, the international education community has put an increasing focus on these skills, which are called “21st-century skills” (21CS) by some, but also referred to variously as non-cognitive, soft, whole child development, transversal, transferable or social-emotional skills or competencies. While the GPE Secretariat has had limited explicit engagement with 21CS to date, it has recently published a landscape review on the issue, which aims to inform reflections on what role GPE can play in this space in the future.

The webinar will feature: Overview of the landscape review on 21st century skills. How 21st century skills feature in the education systems of developing countries and can they be measured? Zambia’s experience in integrating 21st century skills in the education system.

In addition, a representative from Deloitte LLP will share perspectives from the private sector on how they view the role of national education systems in fostering 21st century skills.

MODERATOR: Ramya Vivekanandan, Senior Education Specialist, GPE Secretariat

PRESENTERS:
Ramya Vivekanandan, Senior Education Specialist, GPE Secretariat
