Workshop: Conceptualization, Measurement and Use of Contextual Data (Penang, Malaysia)

The Network on Education Quality Monitoring in the Asia-Pacific (NEQMAP) Secretariat at UNESCO Bangkok, in collaboration with the Universiti Sains Malaysia and with the generous support of the Global Partnership for Education (GPE), organized a four-day workshop from 10 to 13 September 2018 in Penang, Malaysia.

Background

The theme of the workshop was “Conceptualization, Measurement and Use of Contextual Data”. In particular, the workshop looked at three dimensions of this wider topic: firstly, the conceptualization of contextual factors. Secondly, it looked into methodological issues of contextual data. Finally, the workshop touched upon data analysis with a specific emphasis on multi-level modeling, through which we analyze factors associated with learning outcomes. Each theoretical session followed by practical exercises as well as knowledge-sharing sessions, where countries shared their experiences related to different aspects of contextual data. Participants also got a chance to obtain hands-on experience from school visit on the last day of the workshop.
