The Asia and Pacific Regional Bureau’s Education Support Strategy 2014-2021

  • by

Driven by the principle that education is a human right, UNESCO Bangkok is committed to promoting education as a pillar for peace and engine for sustainable development in this period of dynamic change. The newly released, “Asia and Pacific Regional Bureau’s Education Support Strategy 2014-2021: Learning for peace and sustainable development”, details this commitment, outlining the bureau’s educational priorities over the next eight years. The regional support strategy builds on UNESCO’s three overarching global strategic education goals: supporting the Member States to develop education systems to foster high quality and inclusive lifelong learning; empowering learners to be creative and responsible global citizens, and advancing Education for All (EFA) and shaping the future international education agenda. From these, four regional thematic priorities were identified: policies and planning for lifelong learning; equality and equity in education; teaching and learning processes as well as quality and relevance of education. The regional support strategy provides a set of guiding principles to achieving this and realizing the organization’s vision for this region as one where everyone “learns and contributes to peace and sustainable development”.
