Following the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, the Education International (EI) has surveyed its member organisations in March 2020 across five regions to learn about the different strategies and approaches of their governments, and the actions their own organisations to support their members and all education workers. The survey highlights how the Education unions are responding to the effects of COVID-19 in education and it suggests that the most common response is to provide their members with training and support, and to share information. The survey’s key messsages are the recommendations based on the survey results for governments at immediate, short and long term which are: prioritise equity, support teachers to provide distance education, protect education workers’ jobs and income, make education systems better prepared for distance learning, support education workers’ return to work, and improve education workers’ employment conditions.
