Assessment Around the World

  • by
This report discusses how preoccupation with test-based accountability in the United States is founded on several misperceptions about other countries’ practices as well as about international test score comparisons and the extent to which test scores are valid indicators of the quality of education or the state of the economy. The author draws from current national education policies. It includes a discussion on the how several countries use tests to evaluate educator’s performance, the role tests play internationally in tracking students and providing access to universities, and the link between testing and classroom practice. Examples are drawn from various countries such as Singapore, Japan, and China.
