Given the prolonged and massive closures of school and learning institution, education systems around the world are working to react to the unexpected outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic. This working document, based on a rapid assessment carried out between 24 March and 9 April 2020 by UNESCO including other various official sources, provides a quick snapshot of decisions taken by countries with regard to high-stakes exams and timetabled assessments in this particular context. Different measures and strategies adopted by countries include organising exams with special arrangements, cancellation, postponement/rescheduling, going on-line (online assessment), and introducting alternative approaches to exams and validation of learning.
